Parks & Outdoor Time

Virgil T. Irwin Park

Great all-around park with a playground plus tennis and basketball courts. It also has fields for soccer, football, and baseball.

Oakridge Splash Pad

A summer go-to with restrooms on-site. The city lists summer splash pad hours as Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

Walter E. Luedeke Park

A bigger “make an afternoon of it” park with a splash pad, walking trails, a storybook walk, basketball court, and a pond.

Veterans Memorial Park

A calm spot with a gazebo and pond, and it’s also where the city hosts the Christmas Tree Lighting event.

Woodland Park

Spacious park with a playground and lighted walking trails. It’s also home to the Fitness Court.

Guy Berry Park

Good for practice fields and open space.

Boyd Rogers Park

A smaller neighborhood-style park with a basketball court, playground, and picnic area.

If you want something structured (or just want to shoot hoops), the Recreation Center is the move.

  • Classes: The city lists Zumba classes hosted at the Rec Center (first class free, then $5 daily or $40/month per the class listing) ()

The Balch Springs Library-Learning Center is more than books. The city calendar shows ongoing programs like adult book club and other recurring events, and the library has standard weekly hours posted by the city.
